- El pasado fin de semana se celebró la Blizzcon 2007 en California, a la cual asistió 20 Minutos.
- Durante la convención, la compañía Blizzard mostró sus bazas para seguir liderando el sector de los videojuegos masivos online.
- La mayor sorpresa fue el anuncio de la segunda expansión del famoso "World of Warcraft".
Magos, elfos, centauros, demonios y demás criaturas salidas del universo de fantasía del mundo de "World of Warcraft" 
(videojuego online que cuenta ya con más de 9 millones de suscriptores) invadieron los pasados días 3 y 4 de agosto el Centro de Convenciones de Anaheim (California), donde se celebró la Blizzcon 2007.
Todos los fanáticos, los disfrazados y los no disfrazados (y también muchos de los periodistas), estaban ansiosos por conocer las grandes sorpresas prometidas por Blizzard.
No hubo que esperar mucho para satisfacer la curiosidad, ya en la conferencia de inauguración la compañía dio a conocer sus novedades, todas ellas relacionadas con sus dos sagas más existosas: el juego estratégico de ambientación espacial "Starcraft" y el ya citado título de rol multijugador masivo online (MMORPG) "World of Warcraft".
AVENTURA ESPACIAL
Respecto al primero, Blizzard mostró el vídeo introductorio del esperadísimo "Starcarft II", anunciado el pasado mes de mayo, y nos ofreció a los asistententes la posibilidad de convertirnos en los primeros en probar el juego.
"Starcraft II" es un juego de estrategia en tiempo real en el que es tan importante elaborar una buena táctica de combate como conseguir materias primas, desarrollar infraestructuras y administrar correctamente los recursos.
Este desarrollo recuerda mucho a "Warcraft III", aunque técnicamente es muy superior tanto a éste como al primer Starcraft.
MÁS Y MÁS ORCOS
Aunque parecía que "Starcraft II" estaba destinado a convertirse en la estrella del evento, "World of Warcraft" no tardó en quitarle el protagonismo, no sólo por las novedades que llegarán con las próximas actualizaciones del juego (una nueva estancia, bancos para las hermandades, un chat de voz...), sino por el anuncio de la segunda expansión, titulada "Wrath of the Lich King".
Esta expansión seguirá los pasos de la primera, "The Burning Crusade", con un nuevo territorio por explorar (llamado Northrend o Rasganorte), la posibilidad de subir desde el nivel 70 al 80 y una historia centrada en el traidor príncipe Arthas (muy conocido por los seguidores de la saga).
Una de las novedades más suculentas es la inclusión de una nueva clase, caballero de la Muerte, que viene a sumarse a las ya clásicas guerrero, paladín, chamán, etc.
También habrá una nueva profesión, denominada provisionalmente "inscripción", que permitirá a los jugadores mejorar sus hechizos.
Otros elementos que se estrenarán en "Wrath of the Lich King" son las armas de asedio y los edificios destructibles, así como más posibilidades para personalizar a los personajes.
Tras las sorpresas, comenzó la fiesta: dos días de torneos de cartas, competiciones de Warcraft y Starcraft, concursos de disfraces...
LA COMPETENCIA
Este aluvión de novedades por parte de Blizzard se debe en buena medida a la creciente competencia en el sector.
Cada vez hay más MMORPGs y cada vez tienen mayor calidad. Estos son algunos de los más populares o esperados:
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
El famoso juego de estrategia contará a partir de 2008 con su propio multijugador masivo online, que pretende convertirse en el mayor rival de "World of Warcraft".
Sus bazas: un mundo de fantasía épica al estilo Warcraft pero con unos combates mucho más dinámicos, casi sin pausas preparatorias antes de cada batalla.
City of Heroes
El universo superheroico también tiene su propio título multijugador online.
Aquí no aparece Superman, ni Lobezno, ni la Mujer Invisible, sino que el jugador crea un superpersonaje a su gusto: mallas de colores, tipos con fuerza sobrehumana, mujeres voladoras...
Además, se puede optar por crear un superhéroe o un supervillano.
Star Wars Galaxies
Un fenómeno como La Guerra de las Galaxias unido a algo tan adictivo como los MMORPG sólo podía dar lugar a "Star Wars Galaxies".
Tal y como se preveía el título fue un éxito que ya ha contado con varias revisiones para deleite de los aspirantes a caballero Jedi.
LEGO Universe
Los simpáticos muñequitos de LEGO, que tanto éxito han alcanzado en los videojuegos gracias a sus particulares versiones de la saga Star Wars, también se embarcarán en la aventura de los MMORPG.
En "LEGO Universe", los jugadores controlarán a estos juguetes de plástico en entornos creados con las famosas piezas de construcción.
